Its natural oils not only help to preserve its radiant beauty, but make it resistant to insects and decay as well. Its dimensionally stable properties prevent warping, and ensure that it will always lie flat and straight.
Cedar can also be used for the floors, which may be sealed and stained to maintain their reddish hue, or allowed to weather naturally to a rich gray. This sturdy wood is a great choice if you're planning to install a hot tub in your gazebo.
Besides its natural resistance to rot, decay, and insects, cedar also possesses a straight grain, which makes cedar shakes and shingles lie flat and true. In fact, cedar gazebo roofs have been known to last for more than 70 years, which makes it a superb choice. An annual coating with a quality stain/sealer will keep the cedar shake looking new, while untreated roofs will turn a rustic-looking gray.
